Here’s the bad news: there aren’t a lot of Mexican restaurants in Liverpool to choose from.
In fact, it’s hard to find good Mexican restaurants in the UK as a whole!
Luckily, there are a few options scattered across Liverpool, so if you’ve got a hankering for tacos and enchiladas, it IS possible to find them in the city.
I travelled across Mexico solo for 6 weeks, so I know my stuff when it comes to great Mexican food.
In this guide, I’ll help you find the very best Mexican food in Liverpool. And I’ll even make recommendations based on the menus and my time in Mexico.
Let’s get started!

Where to Get Mexican Food in Liverpool
1. Madre
If you’re looking for Mexican restaurants at the Albert Dock, you may struggle. Luckily, Madre is here to save the day with their fabulous and authentic Mexican menu (and yes – they also have vegan options!).
This is the only place to get birria tacos in Liverpool. These are a fan favourite in Mexico consisting of beef stewed until it’s literally of melt-in-your-mouth texture. It’s so incredible!
Another menu shoutout for me is their conchinita pibil tacos, a dish that comes from the Yucatan Peninsula (where you’ll find Tulum and Chichen Itza) and consists of pork marinated in spices and orange juice. These tacos are sooooooo good!
The menu here isn’t massive, and you won’t find any Tex-Mex dishes like burritos or fajitas on the menu. This is all Mexican, baby!
Top off your tacos order with a side of tortilla chips and guac and a margarita, and it’s almost possible to convince yourself you’re chilling on a Mexican beach rather than sitting at the Albert Dock.
2. Savina
Savina is the Mexican restaurant to head to if you’re at Liverpool One – it’s the logical way to round off a day out in Liverpool city centre! The menu here is far bigger than that at Madre, meaning you’ll find something to suit every taste.
This place is ideal for family gatherings since it has a separate kids’ menu.
On the regular menu, you’ll find a whole host of tacos, quesadillas and burritos to sample here, as well as nachos.
You’ll also find a load of inventive small plates like chilli lime fries, and something I haven’t seen on the menu at any Mexican restaurants in the UK before – pimentos rellenos.
These are huge peppers stuffed with rice, black beans, sweet potato, cashew, and a LOT of cheese, then topped with pico de gallo.
This is one of my favourite dishes that I sampled whilst spending a few days in Puerto Vallarta, but it’s very hard to find in the UK.
Try it here!
When it comes to drinks, you’ll find a load of Mexican beers on the menu here, as well as more tequila and mezcal-infused cocktails than you can shake a stick at, and a long list of wines.
3. Big Lola’s Taqueria
Just down the road from Penny Lane, you’ll find Smithdown Road, home to some fabulous restaurants, including Big Lola’s Taqueria.
If you’ve not been to Mexico before, you may not be familiar with a taqueria. It’s far more casual than a regular restaurant – sort of a mix between fast food and a typical restaurant experience.
Basically you go in, order your tacos, eat them, and leave.
It’s not exactly fine dining, but I thought this place was well worth including in this list since taquerias are often where you’ll find the best tacos, and the experience of visiting one is very authentic Mexican.
The portion sizes here are massive, and the menu isn’t just limited to tacos – you’ll also find burritos, nachos, and a few other dishes here.
This place can get very busy so at peak times expect to wait up to 30 minutes for your food.
It’s definitely more of a casual stop for food, and maybe better suited to lunch than dinner, but it’s one of the best Mexican restaurants in Liverpool.
4. La Parrilla Bold Street
If you’ve read my list of the top places to get tapas in Liverpool, you may be familiar with La Parilla. This Bold Street staple is one of the go-to places for Mexican food in Liverpool city centre.
You’re able to order a few different starters to create your own Mexican tapas, or go all in on their massive main courses.
In my opinion, this place is the most Tex-Mex of the restaurants on this list – huge portions, lots of cheese (which is always a good thing!) and dishes like burritos, fajitas, and chilli con carne are on the menu.
This is a great restaurant to choose if you’re new to Mexican and Tex-Mex food and just want to start in familiar territory with a dish you’ve heard of before.
5. Los Amigos Steak House
Located outside of the city centre near Aigburth, Los Amigos is a steakhouse and Mexican restaurant.
As well as steaks, burgers and seafood, they also have a limited Mexican menu serving up enchiladas, chimichanga, tacos, burritos, and fajitas.
Oh, and they also have a 2 for 1 cocktails deal!
It’s a pretty small restaurant better known for its impressive-looking steaks, but, since the list of Mexican restaurants in Liverpool is so limited, I thought Los Amigos would be worth including in this blog post.
It’s good to have options, right?
Final Thoughts: Best Mexican Restaurants in Liverpool
Liverpool’s range of Mexican restaurants is limited, but covers everything you’d want. Authentic tacos? Check. Tex-Mex? Check. Epic margaritas? Check!
So if you fancy a trip to Mexico but can’t swing it at the moment, the next best thing you can do is visit one of these Mexican restaurants without even needing to leave your hometown!
Need a reminder of my recommendations? No worries. You can find the best tacos in Liverpool at Madre, at the Albert Dock, and the most comprehensive menu of Mexican dishes at Savina, at Liverpool One.
