Greek food is some of my absolute favourite, so it was only a matter of time before I went scouting out the best Greek restaurants in Liverpool.
Greek food isn’t a huge deal in the U.K., so you may not have even tried it before! The good news is that Liverpool has plenty of great Greek restaurants for you to sample this oh-so-delicious cuisine.
I fell head over heels for Greek food on my first trip to Greece. I found myself eating Greek salad for lunch pretty much every day! It was there that I was also introduced to Greek souvlaki and, boy, it really is something special.
So, where can you find this fabulous food without leaving the country? I’ve got you covered.
Here are the very best places to get authentic Greek food in Liverpool.

Best Greek Restaurants in Liverpool
1. Greek Taverna Bold Street
Greek Taverna Bold Street is one of the contenders for the title of best Greek restaurant in Liverpool: it’s got lovely decor, is perfect for a family dinner, has great service, and the dishes are as authentic and delicious as it gets.
It’s a great place to sample Greek food for first timers as it has an early bird deal all day Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday and from 12pm-5pm on Thursday where you can get a starter and a main course for £16.95.
The early bird menu is limited compared to their a la carte one, but it covers absolutely everything you’d need to sample the hits of Greek cuisine, including cold meze, moussaka, chicken kebab, and spanakopita (filo pastry stuffed with feta, spinach and dill).
Moussaka is a dish I first tried on Santorini, and my mind was blown. I promise it’s not just the Greek version of shepherd’s pie – it tastes so cinnamony and delicious!
The a la carte menu here is pretty comprehensive, and there’s even a children’s menu with a mix of Western and Greek options, proving why this place works well for family get-togethers.
2. Retsina Greek Restaurant & Taverna
This rustic and intimate Greek restaurant is the perfect spot for couples on a romantic date night. It’s not in Liverpool city centre but is worth the journey for its mouthwatering Mediterranean dishes and unparalleled hospitality.
Retsina is run by husband and wife duo Mel and Biba, who have been running the restaurant for the last 20 years. Something must clearly be working for it to still be thriving all those years later!
Slow dining is the name of the game here – and it’s also the way the Greeks enjoy their meals! For less than £25 per person, you can enjoy their multi-course Greek banquet, consisting of multiple classic dishes served slowly, with lots of time for chatting and drinking.
Save room for their homemade Baklava – sweet layered filo pastry with chopped almonds and doused in honey. It’s one of my favourite desserts of all time, and I promise you’re going to love it!
This place is also super affordable compared to restaurants in the city centre. If you pay with cash, you get 15% off your bill! It’s only open Wednesday-Sunday
3. Christiakis Aigburth Road
This place has got to be one of the best value-for-money Greek restaurants in Liverpool. That means, even with the crazy cost of living nowadays, you’ll still be able to enjoy a meal out with your loved ones here.
From 3-10pm Monday to Thursday and select times on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, you can enjoy a starter and a main course for just £10. It’s a bargain! The portions are large, and the food is as tasty and authentic as it gets.
Since this is one of the best restaurant deals in Liverpool, this place is always busy – even on weekdays. For this reason, it’s definitely worth making a booking to secure your spot.
On Friday and Saturday nights, this place gets a little wild as diners head to the “party floor” to enjoy their party menu! Three courses of fabulous Greek food accompanied by belly dancers, followed by a DJ disco until midnight.
Of course, if you’d prefer to have a more refined evening, not to worry – the fine dining experience is still available downstairs on Friday and Saturday nights for all the non-partygoers.
It’s worth noting that there used to be two Christakis, but now only the Aigburth Road venue is open. Don’t bother going to their old Duke Street address – it’s closed!
4. Othello’s
Othello’s is another Greek restaurant outside Liverpool city centre and has been owned by Gerry and Maria since 2005. I love how many of the Greek restaurants in Liverpool are independently run!
They have an early evening deal for three courses for under £20, as well as the regular a la carte menu. Fish is a speciality here – they have an entire page on the menu dedicated to fish! Be sure to try the pickled octopus.
It’s a dish I saw on most menus whilst I travelled around the Greek Islands, and one I enjoyed many times!
The best option here is to order the Greek banquet, which allows you to sample 18 Greek dishes for under £25 per person. Oh, and they also have a vegetarian version. It’s the perfect way to delve into Greek cuisine if you’re a beginner.
Importantly for those hot summers these days, this restaurant is fully air-conditioned, so if you’re looking for somewhere in Liverpool to eat Greek food in summer, this is it!
5. Eureka Greek Restaurant
You’ll find Eureka Greek Restaurant in Wavertree.
Its menu items are fairly expensive by the standards of some of the other Greek restaurants in Liverpool, but it does have a really impressive early bird deal of 2 courses for less than £14 if you dine between 3pm and 6pm Monday to Saturday or 2pm until 5pm on Sunday.
We haven’t talked about Greek Salad a whole lot yet, but the one served up at Eureka gets rave reviews!
I don’t think I’ve ever had a bad Greek salad, but I remember having one by the beach on Naxos that really blew my socks off – and it looks like Eureka’s could compete with it!
One thing that stands out about Eureka is its huge portion sizes, which countless reviewers commented on. You can never go wrong with huge portions, especially if you’re dining with a group. Then, you can treat it like tapas and all get to sample numerous dishes.
6. Greek Taverna Smithdown Road
Near Sefton Park you’ll find Greek Taverna, a… you guessed it, Greek taverna in Liverpool!
The menu here is huge, and on weekend evenings they even include entertainment with your meal in the form of bellydancers and Greek music. I’ll admit, I never came across any belly dancers during my 5 weeks in Greece but maybe I just wasn’t looking hard enough.
The kebabs are fan favourites here, and, with so many options to choose from, it’s easy to see why. Like many of the other Greek restaurants in the city, they have an early bird deal, so you’ll be able to make some sweet savings by arriving early.
This place comes alive at Christmas, bizarrely enough. Their Christmas Dinner offering is awesome, combining both traditional roast dinners with Greek classics to suit everybody in the family. So, if you’re looking for a Christmas dinner with a twist, head here!
7. Souvla Hardman Street
Souvla is one of my favourite Greek restaurants in Liverpool city centre!
It’s just a few steps away from Moose Coffee, my favourite brunch spot, and seconds away from Mathew Street with its many Beatles sites. You can’t beat its location!
Its decor looks like it’s leapt straight out of an interior design brochure, but it’s the gyros wraps and souvlaki that you come here for.
As well as a bunch of Greek dips (tzatziki is my absolute favourite) they serve up incredible gyros wraps, including meat, tzatziki, chips, and lettuce. Oh, and there are even vegan options for gyros and souvlaki. Vegan Greek food in Liverpool, who’d have thought?
What makes this place super unique is that it’s kind of half-Greek, half-Swedish, which explains the IKEA-style decor. It also explains why you’ll find homemade Swedish meatballs on the menu. Yummy!
8. O’live Greek & Grill
This is one of the top-rated Greek restaurants in Liverpool, and that’s saying something!
They have saganaki grilled cheese on the menu, and if you haven’t tried this before, you really should. I was introduced to it by a Greek friend in Athens and… wow.
The restaurant itself is very small, so you’ll need to give them a ring to book a table if you want to visit during a busy time.
They also get rave reviews for their takeaway food, though, so if you want to enjoy authentic Greek cuisine in your PJs in front of the TV this is the spot to get your food from.
They’re also not afraid of using halloumi in, well, everything here! You can find a halloumi club sandwich, halloumi fries, a halloumi veggie burger, a halloumi wrap, and a halloumi salad on the menu here. If you love halloumi, you’ll love O’live Greek & Grill.
9. Zorbas
In the city centre, just opposite the bombed-out church, you’ll find Zorbas. It’s a family-run Greek restaurant that claims to be the oldest-running restaurant in Liverpool!
It opened in 1974 with the mission of bringing Greek Cypriot flavours to Liverpool, and it’s done a smashing job at it.
It’s probably the most expensive Greek restaurant in town, with mains costing around £18, but given everything is made from scratch following the owners’ grandma’s recipes, the prices can be forgiven.
Oh, and the portions are massive, which certainly helps.
This is the only place in town where you can experience live Greek bouzouki, which takes place here every Friday and Saturday night!
The vibe is unparalleled, and it’s the perfect way to kick off your night on the town, or just bring a slice of sunny Greece to your day-to-day life in Liverpool.
10. Lefteris Greek Taverna
Not far away from the famous Penny Lane, on Smithdown Road, Lefteris Greek Taverna welcomes you with open arms and a fabulous menu of Greek delights.
This place is open every day of the week, serving up hearty and affordable Greek dishes both for dine in and takeaway.
They have a 2 courses for under £18 deal that’s available Sunday to Thursday, and it includes epic dishes like Greek meatballs, Moussaka, and chicken or pork souvlaki.
When it comes to starters, if you’re anything like me, the choice is simple: the Feta cheese baked in filo pastry doused in honey!
The a la carte menu is huge and even contains a bunch of Greek desserts like baklava, kataifi, and the best Greek breakfast of all time – strained Greek yoghurt with honey. It’s so good!
Final Thoughts: Liverpool Greek Restaurants
The places to get Greek food in Liverpool are quite spread out and hidden but, with a little bit of digging, you’ll find incredible restaurants that serve a Greek Salad or souvlaki as good as anything you’d find in Greece!
