Best Beatles Taxi Tours in Liverpool

1. Fab Four Taxi Tour of Liverpool Beatles Sites

Liverpool Fab Four Taxi Tours - a black cab parked on Penny Lane as a guide points out the sights to two female tourists.

⏳ TOUR LENGTH: 3 hours  | 🎸 BOOK NOW!

There are a fair few Beatles taxi tours in Liverpool, but the Fab Four tours are the most famous and most popular. They’re the original and best Beatles cab tour in Liverpool, and have been running Beatles taxi tours since 2007!

Their Liverpool Beatles sites tour is the original. During this 3-hour tour, you’ll hop in a private black cab. Then, your local Beatles expert driver will take you to the most famous Beatles sites in Liverpool.

These include Penny Lane, Strawberry Fields, John’s childhood home, Paul’s childhood home, and St Peter’s Church in Woolton, where John and Paul first met.

Of course, you’ll get to hop out for photos whenever you like too!

This is the perfect Beatles tour if you’re in a group (the price is per taxi, rather than per person, you see) and want a good “all-rounder” Liverpool Beatles tour, full of information about the city.

However, if you’re a solo traveller, it will work out quite expensive because you won’t have other companions to split the cost with. You also don’t get to go inside John and Paul’s houses on this tour.

“We had a great time chatting Beatles and in general with Paul and would highly recommend this tour to anyone visiting Liverpool, whether they are a fan or not.” - GetYourGuide Traveller (Read More Reviews)

2. Fab Four Taxi Tour of Beatles Childhood Homes

Ella and Rob visiting Paul McCartney's Liverpool home
Hello from Paul McCartney’s house!

⏳ TOUR LENGTH: 5 hours  | 🎸 BOOK NOW!

How do you improve upon the Fab Four Taxi Tour? On their Beatles Childhood Homes tour! On this tour, you’ll not only get to whizz around Liverpool to see all of the most famous Beatles attractions.

You’ll also get to go inside John Lennon and Paul McCartney’s childhood homes!

I had been to John and Paul’s houses numerous times before I managed to go inside. You see, both houses are owned by the National Trust, so you need special permission to enter.

On this tour, you’ll get that permission – and get to explore two Beatles holy grail sites that not every fan gets to explore. Trust me – it’s worth it.

This tour is perfect for Beatles superfans or those who have travelled a long way to visit the Liverpool Beatles sites. There’s no point coming all this way and not seeing it all, right?

It’s not ideal if you’re short on time. At 5 hours long, this tour will take up half a day. It’s also more expensive than the regular Fab Four tour, so it’s even more important that you bring travel companions with you so you can split the cost.

“Much more than I expected. Great experience.” - GetYourGuide Traveller (Read More Reviews)

3. Liverpool Half-Day Private Beatles Tour in a Mercedes

The red painted gates, covered in Beatles graffiti, at Strawberry Field in Liverpool

⏳ TOUR LENGTH: 3 hours  | 🎸 BOOK NOW!

If you have mobility issues, this is the ultimate Beatles tour for you. That’s because it includes pick-up at your hotel or the train station, so there’s less walking involved. It also accommodates up to 6 people per group, compared to the Fab Four tours, which can only accommodate groups of up to 5 people.

Aside from these differences, this tour is pretty similar to the Fab Four tour – it’ll take you to all the key Beatles attractions like Penny Lane, John’s House, Paul’s House, Strawberry Fields, and more!

Another difference is that this tour takes place in a Mercedes, rather than a black taxi. It’s worth noting that you can’t enter John and Paul’s houses on this tour – you just view them from the outside, like most other tours. It’s still one of the best Beatles private tours of Liverpool!

“Our tour was brilliant Neil was our guide he was spot on top man. We had a fantastic tour and Neil kept us informed all the way.” - GetYourGuide Traveller (Read More Reviews)

4. Ultimate Private Beatles Tour in Psychedelic Rolls Royce

Liverpool Beatles Rolls Royce tour

⏳ TOUR LENGTH: 2 hours 45 minutes  | 🎸 BOOK NOW!

Take the normal Beatles taxi tour, but then replace a plain old vehicle for a super-duper, psychedelic, 70s John Lennon-inspired Rolls Royce Phantom. Check out photos of the vehicle here. That’s what makes this Beatles taxi tour stand out from the crowd!

You’ll turn heads as you roam around the city in this cool vehicle, checking out all of the Beatles top sights along your way. Like most other tours, you can’t actually enter John and Paul’s houses on this tour, but you can snap photos from the outside, which still counts!

This is the best Beatles taxi tour in Liverpool if you’re a solo traveller. That’s because you can pay per person, and join a group of others also wanting to take the tour, making your ticket much cheaper.

“We had a fantastic time!!! Rob, our tour guide, is an absolute gem, so funny and there was nothing he didn’t know about the Beatles. Two and a half hours of fun, laughter and info!” - Viator Traveller (Read More Reviews)

Best Beatles Bus Tours in Liverpool

5. Beatles Magical Mystery Tour Liverpool

Ella with the yellow and blue Magical Mystery Tour bus in Liverpool

⏳ TOUR LENGTH: 2 hours  | 🎸 BOOK NOW!

When it comes to Beatles bus tours in Liverpool, the Magical Mystery Tour is my top pick! I have personally been on this bus tour, and it’s the ideal intro to Beatles sites if you’re pressed for time.

In just two hours, you’ll cram loads of Beatles attractions into your trip. That includes lesser-visited attractions that most Beatles taxi tours don’t go to like the Ringo Starr museum in Toxteth, and Ringo and George’s childhood homes in addition to John and Paul’s.

The price also gets you a free entry ticket to the Cavern Club!

You can read my full, in-depth review of the tour here.

The bus doesn’t stop at every single attraction (the Ringo attractions, in particular, are just drive-bys), but you’ll get the opportunity to hop off the bus for the main attractions to take photos. These include the Penny Lane sign, Strawberry Fields sign, John’s house and Paul’s house. You can’t enter the houses on this tour.

The main downside to this tour is that there are a lot of people on it. For this reason, stops felt very rushed – you only really have time to snap a photo before you need to leave again.

It’s ideal if you’re pressed for time and on a tight budget (it’s far, far cheaper than the Beatles taxi tours), but if you’re looking for an in-depth tour you’d probably prefer a Beatles taxi tour.

“Absolutely exceptional, driver and tour guide were a perfect duo and so friendly. This was our second time doing the tour as we enjoyed it so much the first time. We will always come and do the tour when we are back in Liverpool.” - GetYourGuide Traveller (Read More Reviews)

6. Liverpool City & Beatles Tour with Hop-On-Hop-Off Ticket

⏳ TOUR LENGTH: 90 minutes  | 🎸 BOOK NOW!

If you’ve spent any amount of time in Liverpool, you may have seen the big red hop-on-hop-off buses riding around the city. They’re a great way to see some of the top sights in the city on a time crunch, like if you only have a day in Liverpool.

The good news is, they have their very own Liverpool Beatles hop on hop off route!

Unlike the Beatles taxi tours and the Magical Mystery Tour, this Liverpool Beatles bus tour includes Beatles attractions in the city centre as well as those out in the suburbs. That means you’ll get to explore the Cavern Quarter, Beatles Statue, John’s house, Paul’s house, Penny Lane, and Strawberry Fields.

The tour, as the name suggests, allows you to hop on and off for photos. It also includes a free ticket to the regular hop on hop off bus tour of Liverpool. Score!

Oh, and you’ll also get a glass of bubbly at the Philharmonic Dining Rooms, one of John Lennon’s favourite Liverpool pubs!

“We had a great time! Our tour guide was informative and entertaining, and we enjoyed seeing and hearing about the history of the Beatles. We had looked at other tours but chose this one because it was the best price. We were very pleased with it!” - GetYourGuide Traveller (Read More Reviews)

7. Liverpool Beatles Explorer Bus Ticket

Liverpool open top bus tour

⏳ TOUR LENGTH: 2 hours  | 🎸 BOOK NOW!

This is the cheapest Beatles bus tour in Liverpool! Did that get your attention?

Just like the hop on hop off Beatles tour above, this Beatles open top bus tour of Liverpool covers all of the main Beatles sites both within the city centre and its suburbs, but it also shows off a few Peaky Blinders filming locations!

If you’re a fan of the Beatles and Peaky Blinders, you’ve hit the jackpot here.

Don’t get me wrong, though – this is still a Beatles-focussed tour. It’s very much similar to the hop on hop off, except that it doesn’t include a glass of bubbly at the Philharmonic Dining Rooms.

“What a fantastic tour! We had Paul on board with us and he was absolutely amazing. So informative, funny and interactive!” - GetYourGuide Traveller (Read More Reviews)

Best Liverpool Beatles Walking Tours

8. Liverpool Beatles Famous Walking Tour of Liverpool

The entrance to the Cavern Club on Mathew Street Liverpool

⏳ TOUR LENGTH: 2 hours 15 minutes  | 🎸 BOOK NOW!

You may have noticed that many of the Beatles sites you’ve been able to visit so far on the tours listed in this post have been mostly outside the city centre. That’s all about to change, thanks to this walking Beatles tour that’ll take you to all of the city-centre highlights!

Led by a knowledgeable guide, you’ll get to stroll past some amazing sights such as The Beatles Statue, the Hard Days Night Hotel, and the Eleanor Rigby Statue, while your guide shares all the fascinating details about these places.

The best part of this walking tour is that it’s easy and relaxed with several locations to sit down for a few minutes if needed. Moreover, you’ll get to have your photo taken outside The Cavern Club, one of the most iconic music venues in the world!

This is one of my favourite Beatles walking tours in the city!

“Great tour! Our guide Rob was fun, entertaining, and very knowledgeable about all things Beatles! Not only that, he knew just about every fun fact you can think of linked to Liverpool” - Viator Traveller (Read More Reviews)

9. Liverpool Beatles and Cavern Quarter Walking Tour

⏳ TOUR LENGTH: 2 hours | 🎸 BOOK NOW!

This Liverpool Beatles walking tour is the ideal way to explore the city if you’re looking for a balance of Beatles information and general information about Liverpool.

Sure, you’ll stop at the most famous city-centre Beatles attractions, but you’ll also explore some of the most famous landmarks in Liverpool, full stop.

That makes it the best city and Beatles tour in Liverpool if you’re keen to do a walking tour.

Highlights include the Beatles Statue, the Cavern Club and Mathew Street, but also top Liverpool attractions like the Royal Albert Dock, the Walker Art Gallery, and William Brown Street, one of the most notable streets in Liverpool.

What’s more, the tour includes an app that provides access to other audio-guided walking routes of Liverpool, making it easy for you to continue exploring the city at your own pace after the tour ends. Nice!

“I had an amazing time exploring Liverpool with John as my tour guide! His knowledge of the city's history and his ability to share interesting facts and stories made the tour truly remarkable.” - GetYourGuide Traveller (Read More Reviews)

10. Liverpool Beatles Highlights Walking Tour

Ella at the Liverpool Beatles statue

⏳ TOUR LENGTH: 1 hour 30 minutes  | 🎸 BOOK NOW!

This is the perfect Beatles walking tour if you’re in a time crunch because it only lasts 90 minutes! Led by a knowledgeable local guide, this tour will transport you back in time to 1960s Liverpool, where The Beatles’ career began.

You’ll get to pose for a photo with the famous Pier Head statue, which depicts The Beatles, and visit the iconic Cavern Club, where the band once played. The tour also takes you to see the statues of Eleanor Rigby and John Lennon, which you won’t want to miss!

The tour guide for this tour gets rave reviews for having an accent that’s easy for foreign travellers to understand. If you’ve ever tried to follow a tour led by someone with a strong Scouse accent, you’ll understand why this is such a good thing!

“We had a great tour with Eddie. He was very knowledgeable and answered all questions about Liverpool and the Beatles competently and with a lot of wit.” - GetYourGuide Traveller (Read More Reviews)

Best Beatles Houses Tour

My top pick for a tour that allows you to go inside the Beatles houses is the Fab Four Beatles Childhood Homes tour since it also includes other attractions like Penny Lane, Strawberry Fields, and so on.

However, there is one more tour that’ll allow you to enter the Beatles’ houses.

11. National Trust Paul McCartney & John Lennon’s Houses Tour

Ella and Rob visiting John Lennon's house

⏳ TOUR LENGTH: 2 hours  | 🎸 BOOK NOW!

Since John and Paul’s childhood homes are owned by the National Trust, you’re able to enter them on an official Beatles National Trust tour of John and Paul’s homes.

Unlike the other tours I’ve told you about in this blog post, this tour only goes to John and Paul’s houses – no Strawberry Fields, no Penny Lane, no George & Ringo’s houses.

That’s a shame, in my opinion, as George and Ringo sang some belters for the band!

In exchange, you’ll get to actually go inside John & Paul’s houses! Actually going inside the houses is 1000% worth it if you’re as Beatles-obsessed as I am. It really brings the Beatles’ childhoods to life.

You’ll get to step on the creaky floorboard that always used to wake up Aunt Mimi when John snuck home after curfew, and you’ll get to play the McCartney family’s piano in Paul’s old living room. You can’t put a price tag on that!

The downside to this tour is that you’ll get collected either at Speke Hall (one of the most haunted places in Liverpool, apparently!) or Liverpool South Parkway train station. Both of these are quite a trek from the city centre.

I took this tour on my 25th birthday and it was amazing! What better way to welcome my quarter-life crisis, right🤣?

FAQs About the Best Beatles Tours in Liverpool UK

Visiting Mathew Street is one of the best Beatles things to do in Liverpool

What is the best Liverpool Beatles Tour?

The best overall Liverpool Beatles tour is the Fab Four Taxi Tour with Beatles Childhood Homes. It’s a locally-led private tour that takes you to the most famous Beatles attractions like Penny Lane and Strawberry Fields, and also allows you to go inside Paul McCartney and John Lennon’s houses. It lasts for five hours.

How to do a Beatles tour in Liverpool?

To do a Beatles tour in Liverpool, research tour companies (like you’re doing by reading this post), choose a tour (walking, bus or taxi), book it, plan your itinerary, dress appropriately, bring a camera and have fun! You can also include other Beatles-related sites such as The Beatles Story museum or The Cavern Club in your itinerary.

Can you walk the Beatles tour Liverpool?

There are many guided walking tours of the key Beatles sights in Liverpool, but it’s totally possible to do your own Beatles walk of the Liverpool city centre sights by yourself. The Beatles attractions in the suburbs, like the Beatles’ childhood homes and Penny Lane, are not walkable from the city centre. You’ll need to take a bus out to this area, but can then walk from attraction to attraction.

How long is the Beatles taxi tour in Liverpool?

Although individual tours may differ, most Liverpool Beatles taxi tours last around 3 hours. The main exception to this is the Fab Four Beatles Childhood Homes tour, which lasts for five hours, but this is because it includes entry to John Lennon and Paul McCartney’s former homes, whereas the other taxi tours do not.

Final Thoughts: Best Liverpool Beatles Tours

Liverpool is a treasure trove of brilliant Beatles tours! I hope I’ve managed to put my insider (slightly obsessive, let’s be real!) Liverpool Beatles knowledge to good use to help you pick out the perfect tour!
